CAREER SETBACKS

Have you experienced a career setback?
I can speak about setbacks because I've had my share of them. Am I proud of them, no. But I'm not ashamed of them.
I don't think I'm alone in this. I believe many people have experienced career setbacks - especially in the current employment environment.
We're always striving to do our best, to do better and sometimes we don't succeed in spite of our good intentions. Afterall, we're human and quite imperfect.
When I've had a setback, I felt like a stalled car on the side of the road waiting to be towed. I'd ask myself, "Why are the other cars moving so fast and effortlessly?" After reflecting, I realized that a setback is not a roadblock but a bump in the road. Maybe it's a signal to pause and take a deeper look at what I could be doing differently. And differently is not necessarily better.
Whatever professional and personal shifts I go through, the journey is much easier when I do it with self compassion and kindness. Blaming myself or not forgiving myself for choices I made only complicates a difficult situation.
A setback doesn't mean you failed. Just because something didn't work out, doesn't make you a failure. The only way to fail is by giving up.
Setbacks are teachers:
🔹an opportunity to call upon your creativity and resourcefulness
🔹guidelines pointing you in a different direction
🔹an opportunity to build inner resilience
🔹a discovery of new interests & strengths you never explored before
🔹expose skill gaps giving clarity around career growth
Managing setbacks has been challenging but letting them overcome me is not an option.
